Birth and early life
- Birth: Saint Rohidas was born in the 15th century (1398–1440) in Varanasi (Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India.
- Family: He was born into a Dalit (Chamar) family. His father was Raghu and mother was Ghurbinibai. His family was engaged in leather work.
Childhood: Rohidas was inclined towards spirituality from his childhood. He was able to see the effects of social inequality and caste system closely and spoke against it.
A spiritual journey
- Guru: Rohidas came in contact with great saints like Saint Kabir and Saint Ramanand and was influenced by their teachings.
Bhakti Marg: He became a great preacher of Bhakti Marg. He considered devotion to God as the path to salvation.
Message of Equality: Rohidas rejected discrimination based on caste, religion, and social status. He taught that all human beings are equal in the eyes of God.
